He then had the audacity to hand me the print out and send me on my way. Not convinced by my response he pushed further and asked ‘are you sexually active?’ to which I replied ‘yes’.Ĭonfused by this he asked ‘but how can you be sure that you aren’t pregnant?’ to which I revealed ‘because I’m gay’. I went to the doctor’s once and had such an awkward conversation.Īs I sat there he asked me ‘are you pregnant?’ to which I replied ‘no’. When he resumed the conversation his tone shifted from casual to painfully formal. Satisfied with my response the doctor took it upon himself to announce ‘well you won’t be needing an STI test’ to which I had painfully correct him and say ‘erm, well I kinda do’.Īt this point it dawned on him what had happened and he replied with a stiff ‘oh’ followed by an awfully long silence. I began by quickly explaining that my gay best friend was not my partner, to which the doctor enquired if I had a boyfriend or not, to which I replied ‘yes’. ![]() I didn’t count on the doctor assuming that my gay best friend was my partner, which was the starting point of the most awkward conversation I have ever had with a medical professional. ![]()
